A Dream Come True

This year marks 50 years since I realized a long held dream, to become an Orthodontist, my life-career goal since I was 14. With a great deal of hard work, and more than a little bit of luck, and the wonderful support of a loving family, I began my Orthodontic journey in August of 1970.

I have been in the clinical practice of Orthodontics exclusively since 1972 and have been privileged to have treated multiple thousands of patients. I have lived the dream of that 14 year old boy, spending my professional life making smiles. Most gratifying are the number of children and grand-children of former patients that have sought treatment in my practice. I have also been chosen by innumerable General Dentists and Specialists to provide Orthodontic care for their families, so I guess I must be doing something right.

And the cherry on the ice cream sundae has fortuitously being able to give back, to pass along the wisdom of my mentors. I began teaching at the Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia in 1972, and the University of Pennsylvania in 1973. To date I have invested more than 2,300 Tuesday mornings in the education of neophyte Orthodontists, almost 500 in total. It has been both an honor and a privilege to have contributed to their training.
