Treatment for adults is different than treatment for tweens/teens. Non-growing adults turn over cells at a slower rate than growing children. Adults are less tolerant of irritants than kids. And adults are not quite as good at following directions. So, while I can do miracles for all age groups, it takes a little longer to complete adult treatment.
The adult dentition also often comes with an overlay of gum/bone disease and/or a significant restorative requirement. Collaboration with a Periodontist (gum/bone specialist), and/or an Endodontist (root canal specialist), and/or General Dentist or Prosthodontist (restorative dental specialist) to achieve an optimum result.
Additionally, where skeletal adaptation is possible in growing children, it’s not possible in non-growing adults. That means if a skeletal change is required to place the jaws into optimum relationships in order to get the teeth to fit and function, sometimes we need the services of a specialist Oral Surgeon.
